Surgery Date set...
Hi everyone - We saw Dr. Sielaff today, and he explained what he needs to do surgically to remove the tumor according to Scott's current tests and scans. He felt that the treatment program is very beneficial in slowing the tumor down, and shrinking the tumor somewhat, he sees no spreading of the cancer. Dr. Sielaff and Dr. Greeno feel that this is the best time to go for the surgical removal of the tumor, 80% of the pancreas, his spleen and the involved stomach wall. The last phase of chemo will occur after recovery from the surgery.
The surgery date is Monday, July 11th, 8 a.m. @ Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis, MN. The surgery was not scheduled sooner due to Dr. Sielaff having a scheduled vacation and he did not want to do the surgery, and then be unavailable, we like the idea of the vacationed, rested and relaxed surgeon :-)
We expect Scott to be in the hospital 5-7 days following the surgery, and it is expected to take about 4 hours. Dr. Sielaff is an excellent surgeon; his parting words were...take care of yourself and let's get to work!
We will keep busy for these next several days, Scott is feeling very well and getting a great tan, he plans to get a some fishing and visiting in before he lays low for a few weeks post-surgery.
Keep the good thoughts heading our way!!
