Round #3 begins...
Today was Scott first chemo visit for round 3. I'm not sure if I have blogged before about our new Clinical RN, her name is Carrie and she has been very helpful to us since she took over for Judy, RN. Carrie met us at our appointment today @2 and we got to talk a lot about this next phase of treatment and what to expect, we are all hoping that it will be pretty uneventful.
We spent about 1 1/2 hrs at the clinic, Scott got his blood work done, and we waited for results (they were good) so treatment was started. Treatment will consist of a small IV "bag" of zofran, a drug that helps with side effects from the chemo drug which took about 25 minutes to run in, after that was done our RN Mary gave Scott a shot of the 5fu in the IV tube. The blood draw and drugs will all be done through the port they put in Scott's chest last January, the port has really saved Scott a lot of needle picks and pokes.
So for the next five weeks we will make the drive up to the U again, traffic was really heavy today when we hit the road for home @ 3:30, we got home about 5, so almost double the time it took to get up there.
We have a busy weekend planned, Ben & Jen are coming over on Saturday to celebrate Scott's (54th) birthday with us. Sunday is "Draft Day" for Scott's Fantasy Football League, Scott as "commish" is having all the guys over here...so there will be a lot of "BS" going on ;-) Later that afternoon Claire will be heading back this way from EC to have birthday supper with us.
Thanks for your calls, emails, notes, thoughts and prayers, we really appreciate your support and good wishes!!
