Week Two...done!

Scott & I went over yesterday for another treatment @ the U. Things were all fine with his blood work so the the dose of 5fu was given. We had a pretty good week with just a few side effects at times, but he is happy that he is not having the chemo ball on 24/7 between appointments.

We don't have a lot planned over the long weekend coming up, just around the house work I would like to get done.

I cannot believe the summer is almost over!!

Take Care -

Just wanted to wish you a quiet Labor Day weekend. Glad to hear it is going well. We are off to WB for three days of, well, Labor. No one told me that it is a work weekend and not a celebrate the end of summer weekend. Oh well. Kevan will be off to Corvallis after this--he starts work on the 6th. So we are empty nesters once again. Oh well, the grocery bill should go down considerably! You take care and we will check in again after the holiday weekend. Love to all---cousin Kris
It is great that you don't have so many trips to the U these days--especially with the gas situation!
Enjoy your nice, long, quiet weekend. We thought about coming up to WI-but I just hate the traffic coming back home on weekends like this.
Chad came home for the weekend though, so that will be nice. I'd like to get down to Chicago to see the "Bean" again!
It is hard to believe that summer is over already, but I am so ready for my favorite season!
Have a great weekend and week!!
Love,
Bernie W.

Week 3 Progress

Third treatment today, including a visit with Cindy,NP. She was new (to us) and had very kind words to say to Scott regarding progress with his treatment, and how great she thinks he is doing. He passed the exam with flying colors. Scott was really feeling great today so if she had a question it was answered very thoughly, with even a few jokes tossed in. We also got to see Judy, RN in the hall at the clinic, so he got to hug her, Judy hasn't seen Scott since before his surgery, she thought he looked great also, he loves all the great comments he gets from all the RN's up at the clinic, I guess we are "regulars" now :-)

So treatment is coming along...on the downhill now!! This past week Scott has felt better than the week before, like I stated before, he was spunking today...and hurray...Football season starts tonight!!

Hi,
Just keeping in touch. Are you going to make it to the Emerson wedding next week in Iowa? You know that they are few and far between! We are happy that Tony is getting married, but also sad that the newlyweds will be moving to Cour 'd'alene, Idaho. Jess starts her new job there the first part of October. Hope to see you all next weekend.

Hey,
It has been a while since I even checked this blog--guess that I am confident that all is well and the road is smoother!
The U has almost become your second home --so I bet that the people there have become like family. Glad that you got to see Judy, you have mentioned her much--so she must have been special!
It is so thrilling that you are feeling so good.
So--football season has started--enjoy!
Haven't heard about any movies from you lately? We rented cellular lately--it was good. It is kind of old, has probably been out on tape for quite a while--so maybe you already have seen it.
It is still so hot down here--hope that it is cooler up by you guys.
Happy Fall-
Love,
Bernie W.

Week 4 - ready to vacation :-)

Today went fine at the clinic again, blood work was a-ok and treatment was done. Scott is feeling a little sick tonight though, but his tummy is settling down. Our study RN Carrie volunteered to go to Louisiana for the next three weeks to help out with medical needs of the people in that area, so we won't see her again until the recheck tests in late October, Gerry, RN is stepping in for the final few weeks.

We have a BIG week of plans coming up, we are heading to Iowa for a family wedding, my Uncle Charlie's son Tony is getting married in Le Mars. Sunday we are off to the Black Hills for a couple days, returning in time for the next appointment on the 22nd.

All you RR bloggers out there, we ran into Terry Zilge today again, he seems to be coming along well on this treatment plan also, a heck of a place to run into someone.

So we will be putting on the miles this week, update next Thursday.

Thanks again for the thoughts, prayers and encouragement.

Sounds like you will be busy in the week ahead. Will be good for you to get away and be somewhere else other than home. Sorry about the queasiness---hope it passes quickly. Just got back from Portland today. Been gone for 3 days with Kari--just shopping around and general mother/daughter stuff. Going to a football game tomorrow nite and then off to WB early Sat. a.m. for another weekend of wonderful work. ha ha
Take care and talk to you when you get back. Love, cousin Kris
Sounds like you will have a great weekend. Getting together with all of the family for a wedding is always such a Great Time.
How fun for the two of you to head out to the Black Hills--that should be beautiful and restful this time of year.
Have a great trip!
Love,
Bernie W.

Glad to hear your doing so great Scott. Don't let all the attention from those nurses go to your head.

Week 5 treatment results

Scott's blood work all looked good today again so treatment was given, what did not look good was some type of skin rash we noticed Wednesday night after we got home from our trip.

Our RN today, Mary thought it looked suspicious, and she was correct...Scott is being treated for shingles. It is just the beginning of the breakout so we are hoping that it will be mild, he was given a prescription for 10days of meds that should take care it we hope. Shingles can be very painful; we are hoping that doesn't happen, we have a med if it does though.Scott is very contagious (if you have not had chicken poxs, are expecting, are a newborn or have a weak immune system)...so he will have to be very careful not to spread the disease.

Looks like this week maybe a challenging one...but just one more shot, and Phase III will be completed!!

Have a good weekend everyone!!

Roxie & Scott

Sorry to hear about the shingles. Hope you feel better soon. Steve is up north fixing the patio door and I stayed home to work. Not fair huh? Steve will call you when he gets back.

Treatment Plan completed!!!

Sometimes it's hard to believe all that Scott has been through with this treatment. Starting January 3rd, from Dr. Sielaff's office and the first unsuccessful surgery, we moved to plan B @ U of MN seeing Dr. Greeno. He showed us the recommended treatment plan and we cannot believe that it has all fallen into place. I guess it does help to just put one foot in front of the other and to keep moving, I said this more then once to several of you when you asked, "How do you do it?"

Scott's shingles have reached their peak (I think) soon they will heal and fade away. This past week has been one of the tough ones for Scott, but again he conquered it. We are all so proud of him, he did not really complain (ok sometimes) but I believe few could have tolerated so much.

Of course, we know we owe a lot to our doctors and nurses, researchers, clinical and staff members, and hospitals. We are also thankful for good insurance benefits, the RR has covered all the bills thus far with only co-pays paid by us!! Thanks also to my employer for all the time off I was allowed thorough all this, and to the employees that "covered" for me, especially Bernie!

Scott goes back in late October for a re-check CT scan, in the mean time he hopes to recover quickly from this last chemo treatment. Let's hope his energy and weight go on the upswing quickly. Give him a call/email if you have a chance, he enjoys hearing from everyone.

In November he has a ticket to Lambeau waiting for him, let's hope the Pack can recover before then too!!

And....have we mentioned that we are expecting a grandson ?? Make sure you check out those pictures :-)

This is getting long isn't it? Again and again...thanks!! We could NOT have done this without all the support and prayers and love from family, friends, friends of friends, neighbors, co-workers, and those that we don't even know.

All our love and appreciation...

Roxane & Scott
Ben &Jen - Claire & Kyle
Toby, Lily & Scruffy too!! :-)

WOW--I have heard that shingles are very painful!! Wow--kind of not fair--after all that you have been through--to have this added pain!
Hope that you feel real good soon.
Yes, it has been an amazing journey for both of you! Scott, guess your "vacation" from work will be over once you have all of your strength back--but then, work will seem like a vacation after all that you have been through!
Enjoy!
I hope that you are enjoying the same kind of Fall weather that we are down her in Crystal Lake. It has been gorgeous!
Congrats to all of you on your little William! You will be awesome grandparents!
Lots of Love,
Bernie W.
